Saint Valentine Skipped Us This Year

For a holiday such as Valentine’s Day, don’t let marketing agencies one-up you. By this, we mean, if you stop at buying chocolate-covered strawberries, a scented candle, the handful of flowers, and/or oysters, they win. That’s where their plan ends and yours should just be beginning. And maybe, just maybe, South Florida falls for this crap too, so today, we offer some last-minute shopping spots from two of our fave local haunts.

The independent record store Radio-Active Records in Gateway Shops Plaza, 1930B E. Sunrise Blvd. in Fort Lauderdale, is our go-to spot for all our new and used vinyl, CDs, DVDs, normal gadgets record stores carry, needs. Frankly, they keep the place stocked. And, this year, surprise the boyfriend: See his face light up when you suggest a make-out sesh to the new Slayer album. Today's hours are 10 a.m. to 9 p.m. Call 954-762-9488, or visit radio-active-records.com.

It’s the season of sweets, but nothing says “I love you” quite like combining your sweetheart’s two favorite things: chocolate and bacon. To the Moon offers quirky combos such as this and plenty of V-Day stocking stuffers. To the Moon Marketplace is located at 2205 Wilton Dr. in Wilton Manors. It's open from 11 a.m. to 11 p.m. Call 954-564-2987, or visit tothemoonmarketplace.com.
