School's in Session

Your lesson plan for Friday night’s gig at the Monterey Club will be a strange mashup of history and current events. First period will feature a rocking presentation by longtime local favorites Mr. Entertainment and the Pookiesmackers (they’ve been kicking ass in South Florida for a decade). Next up will be show and tell: Youngsters the Jacuzzi Boys will show you the rock they found in their garage — it’s warbley, surfy, catchy, and it’s got all the kids talking. The Jacuzzi Boys are, like, the most popular kids in school. Finally, last period will be a history class with Professor Clarence Reid. His alter ego is Blowfly, and many consider him to be the father of hip-hop. The legendary songwriter/performer will be takin’ it back to the old school with chart-topping soul jams dating back to the ’60s. This will be the first clean Clarence Reid gig in 30 years. Don’t miss this rare opportunity at the Monterey Club (2608 S. Federal Highway, Fort Lauderdale). Doors open at 9 p.m., and the cover is $10. Visit themontereyclub.net.
