Slam Pickings

South Florida’s arts community may be disorganized, but like a flyer on Kevro’s Art Bar’s MySpace page states, “Support the scene or there will be NO scene to support.” The flyer promotes the Delray venue’s weekly event, Open Mic Tuesdays, hosted by poetry slammer Renda Writer. It’s open to just about anyone who’s willing to take the floor for the sake of artistic expression, so have a drink, calm your nerves and hit the stage with your latest rant about the ills of society or that gal or guy who snubbed you downtown. Still too nervous? Bring your lap top (free wi-fi), play Ping-Pong, or simply enjoy the ambiance of a bar, so brilliantly designed with walls covered in art and brightly colored sitting areas, that it seems to be a piece of art in and of itself.

Sign-up starts at 7:30 p.m. and the open mic opens at 8. Kevro’s Art Bar is located at 166 SE Second Ave. in Delray. Admission is free with a one-drink minimum. For more information call 561-278-9675, or visit
Tuesdays, 7:30 p.m. Starts: April 14. Continues through Oct. 14, 2009
