Staged Heat

As a theater attendee, audience participation can be a real deal breaker. Sure, you expect it at the Rocky Horror Picture Show or at the twentieth anniversary of Dirty Dancing, but you know better than to answer those curtain calls. The action belongs onstage and not in the theater seats. But what if the deal of audience participation was sweetened with complimentary caffeinated beverages and dessert? During Flamenco in the Sun’s Café Cantante at Parker Playhouse (707 NE Eighth St., Fort Lauderdale) that’s just what’s in store for you. Audience members arrive onstage to play the role of café patrons as the playhouse transforms into an intimate café where flamenco dancers and musicians will dance around the obstacle course of tables and chairs. All you have to do is sit back, drink up, and hope nobody gets dipped in your dessert. Showtime is at 7 p.m. and tickets range $25 to $30. Call (954) 462-0222, or visit
