Summer of Santa

Think about Christmastime in South Florida versus the rest of the planet. We still revel in palm trees, and the only thing we use a shovel for is to dig a hole on the beach. The holidays are generally a cold and miserable time for everyone else, but while Northerners get covered in that weird cold stuff that falls from the sky, our Christmas adventures in South Florida are starkly different. Looking outside gives no indication it's December; it's up to us to create it. So why not make it Christmastime all the time? That's the idea of Swimsuit Santapalooza, presented by America's Backyard. Christmas in July is coming at you in full force this Friday, with no presents necessary, no Macy's Parade, and definitely no snow getting in your way of a good time. 99.9 Kiss Country is kicking off the party at 5 p.m. with a two-for-one and 99-cent happy hour, and ladies drink free from 8 p.m. to midnight. Wow, Santa finally read your gift list! Everyone is encouraged to wear his or her bathing suit and Santa hat, because how else would you celebrate Christmas in July? The best-dressed wins a prize, and this is a SantaCon-approved event, so it's bound to be a party. All the party, none of the holiday. Swimsuit Santapalooza is Friday at America's Backyard, located at 100 SW Third Ave. in Fort Lauderdale. No cover. Party goes from 5 p.m. to close. Call 954-449-1025, or visit myamericasbackyard.com.
