Summer School by Way of a Sommelier

Adult education can often mean important but dry-as-toast endeavors like learning how to formulate Excel spreadsheets or conjugate verbs. The winetasting lecture and event tonight at Virginia Philip Wine Shop & Academy in West Palm Beach is a different kind of instructional session for grownups. Specifically, you’ll learn all about Cabernet Sauvignon blends with a presentation by Trey Christy, a sommelier with the Spire Collection, who will showcase highly rated wines from this summer-friendly genre. Christy will be joined by master sommelier John Blazon, who was elected to serve on the board for the Court of Master Sommeliers in 2008. The “classroom” setting is master sommelier Virginia Philip’s wine shop, which offers hundreds of wines in case you want to do some posttasting shopping to expand your wine cellar. Virginia Philip Wine Shop & Academy is located at 101 N. Clematis St., Ste. 150, in West Palm Beach. The event is from 6 to 7 p.m., and admission is $40 per person. Call 561-721-6000, or visit
