Are those comic-book long boxes beginning to stack up and block doors and windows at home? Is that a new brick wall or a towering pile of Mego dolls? Do you really need four Wun-Dar action figures when you know only one was available per subscription to the He-Man Collectors Club? C’mon! Maybe it’s time to part with some collectible treasures, and there’s no better place to do it than at the fifth-annual Tate’s Comics Community Park & Swap, virtually guaranteeing that your valuables will go to another equally deserving forever home. Or maybe you’re looking to replace that beloved Chewie doll your evil older brother threw down the hollow of a staircase in your childhood home in Caracas, effectively burying your Wookiee under the rubble of demolition, a condominium, and the nonsense of socialist ideology.
Whether you’re there to sell or buy, Tate’s continues to embed itself into South Florida as the most compelling destination in the comics-and-related-ephemera community. From 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. Saturday, the parking lot in front of the main store will host a sort of swap meet for treasure hunters and those looking to make room in their collections. It’s free to peruse, and — who knows? — maybe you’ll find Chewie and finally squash that 25-year-old beef. Tate’s is located at 4566 N. University Drive in Lauderhill.
