Two Boys in a Bed on a Cold Winter’s Night is an allegory about the one-night stand. Set in New York in 1987 amid the dead heat of the AIDS epidemic, the acclaimed play follows two hunky, middle-aged near-strangers, Daryl and Peter, as they plunge into a night of fraught sex and secret-telling. As a New Yorker review put it, the men demonstrate how not to carry out a random hookup. Here’s a pointer: Don’t fool around with another guy while your boyfriend is in the hospital with late-stage AIDS.

Two Boys is a comedy of sexual manners with a heavy and tragic overtone, and who better to stage such a thing than Rising Action Theatre (Sunshine Cathedral, 1480 SW Ninth Ave., Fort Lauderdale), SoFla’s ground zero of gay drama? Catch the show, which runs through June 26, on Friday at 8 p.m. Tickets cost $35, or $60 with a dinner package. Call 954-561-2225, or visit risingactiontheatre.org.
Fridays-Sundays. Starts: June 10. Continues through June 26, 2011
