Get superfreaky this Friday night with two local bands that are not afraid to let their funk flags fly. Hvy Crm and Rundowntown love to show their admiration for the thumping rhythmic grooves of ’70s bands like Chic and Sly and the Family Stone in their gigs. We are sure both units will be bringing da funk to their gig at Boca Raton microbrewery and taproom the Funky Buddha. Boca Raton’s Hvy Crm is a relatively new outfit, this being one of its first gigs. Its brand of funk is more straight-up old-school bass-and-drum thump, with a touch of improvisational rock. Rundowntown, a West Palm Beach-based troupe, mixes its funk with flourishes of reggae and surf rock. Imagine Jack Johnson collaborating with Parliament Funkadelic and you have the hip-shaking beach time party that is Rundowntown. The two will turn Boca Raton into “Funkytown” this Friday. The event takes place at 9:30 p.m. at the Funky Buddha Lounge & Brewery, located at 2621 N. Federal Highway in Boca Raton. There is a $6 cover for this 18-and-over show. Call 561-368-4643, or visit thefunkybuddha.com.
