The Art in Drinking

Do something entirely outside of tradition, yet still throw a gentle nod Oktoberfest's way. Saturday, Grapevine Juice will host ARToberfest, a night of art, music, raffles, food, and drink at Speakeasy Lounge -- this won't be a local bar's bastardized version of the main Munich event. Ten artisans -- including painter Mister Pen and Steampunk jeweler Maricruz Gonzalez -- will be showcased. You'll find local experts in everything from graffiti and tattoo art to revamped vintage handbags and photography. The Howling Winds, the Rude Hecklers, and Mike Mineo will perform, probably sans the lederhosen. You still want the beer, brats, and bretz'n (pretzels)? There will be German beer specials and sausages -- maybe even some St. Pauli Girl Halloween costumes. Doors open at 8 p.m. with a $5 cover for the 21-and-over crowd, $10 for those 18 to 20.
