The Beautiful Balls of Old Men

If you build it, they will come. "It," in this case, is a children's hospital named after a baseball great; "they" are a bunch of retired ballplayers who will play one another in a one-off game at Fort Lauderdale Stadium (1301 NW 55th St., Fort Lauderdale) at 1 p.m. You've got former stars from the Mets, the Giants, the Senators, the Cardinals, the Orioles -- all kindsa teams, and you can see 'em for real cheap. Tickets cost $3 and $5, depending on your seats, and all proceeds go to the Joe DiMaggio Children's Hospital. It's not a league game, there's nothing riding on one or another team's victory, but that doesn't mean the stakes aren't high. Visit for more info or to learn more about the hospital.
