The Beer Bowl

The Super Bowl takes place tomorrow, and although the competitors have already been decided, you've yet to make a decision on one crucial element: which beer will hold the marquee spot at your watch party. There are just so many fantastic brews out there to choose from; you thought about employing the powerful bite of Rogue Dead Guy Ale, or maybe going seasonal by snatching up the last few cases of Dogfish Head Pumpkin. But it's no easy call, my friend. What you need is a Beer-Off.

And you'll get it. Today, Whole Foods Coral Springs is hosting The Beer-Offs II, its second tournament-style competition that lets 50 layman judges (one of which could be you) choose which beer reigns supreme. In the final eight: IPAs from Stone and Shipyard Brewing, cherry lambics from Lindemans and Ommegang, brown ales from He'Brew Messiah and Lost Coast Brewery, and chocolate stouts from Rogue and Young's. Whole Foods will also have a heaping stock of each brew involved, so no matter the victor, you'll be able to outfit your Big Game Party with premier suds.

The chugging goes down at 6 p.m. at the Whole Foods Market at 810 University Dr. in Coral Springs. Judging space is limited, so register by e-mailing [email protected], or calling 954-753-8000, ext. 241.
