Im having a Dickens of a time figuring out what would compel this Arizona quintet to give itself such a frosty moniker as
the Maine. Its just like this whole Twilight Saga bullshit about Aryan vampires and Native American werewolves. Like, why the hell does Bella, whos supposed to hail from sunny Arizona, look like shes never set foot outside the dampest cellar in Norway? Ive never read the Twilight books, but I saw the first flick, and Im confused. OK, so now Ive paused for a second and Googled why this band calls itself the Maine, and its because these Arizonians decided to name themselves after an Ivory song. Whatever.
The Maine blends youthful savvy with what its members may or not remember of the 90s music scene with a polished pop punk sound that is all the rage among Twilight readers. Which I think is great, especially with the disposable income that bracket wields and these dudes look like they need a lot of SPF 1000 to keep them going. Joining onstage will be the equally pasty and youthful This Century. Doors open at 7 p.m. Saturday at the Culture Room, 3045 N. Federal Highway, Fort Lauderdale. Show is for those 18 and up, and tickets cost $14.99. Call 954-564-1074, or visit cultureroom.net.
