The Only Fake Friend You Should Have

They say diamonds are a girl’s best friend, but costume jewelry designer Kenneth Jay Lane shows otherwise. For decades, Lane has bedazzled the world with his stunning jewelry designs, outfitting icons from Jackie O to Diana Vreeland. According to him, the Duchess of Windsor is buried in a jeweled belt that he designed. Take an exclusive and up close look at the work of a fashion industry staple during the Norton Museum of Art’s upcoming exhibition “Fabulous Fakes: Jewelry by Kenneth Jay Lane,” opening Thursday, February 3. The on display collection will showcase around one hundred of Lane’s notorious, costume-jeweled creations, including a copy of the Van Cleef and Arpels necklace Aristotle Onassis gave his new American wife as a wedding present in 1968 and a flamingo broach inspired by the Duchess of Windsor’s 1940 original by Cartier. The exhibit runs until May 1st, 2011.

The Norton, at 1451 S. Olive Ave., in West Palm Beach, is open 10 a.m. to 6 p.m. Tuesday through Saturday; and 1 to 5 p.m. Sunday. Admission costs $12 for adults, $5 for visitors aged 13 to 2. Visit, or call 561-832-5196.
Tuesdays-Sundays. Starts: Feb. 3. Continues through May 1, 2011
