Let’s face it: Broadway admission isn’t cheap. Last year, the average price for a ticket exceeded $100, and if you desire a seat where you can, you know, see the actors, you’re looking at more than $400 per ticket. Best to listen to the Hamilton soundtrack at home and maybe wear a periwig for ambiance. Luckily, the longtime humorists behind the ever-evolving Forbidden Broadway have been filling audiences in on what they’ve missed on the Great White Way for 30 years with their witty, lo-fi parodies of Broadway hits and the outsized personalities who sing them. Performed by just four actors, a pianist, and a bottomless costume trunk, a good Forbidden Broadway revue will inspire laughter from theater insiders and casual fans alike by puncturing the grandiosity behind epics from Phantom of the Opera to Spider-Man: Turn Off the Dark. Its snarky, take-no-prisoners approach also deigns to mock whip-smart musical comedies like The Book of Mormon and The Little Shop of Horrors, which is a bit like parodying a Saturday Night Live sketch. But if any team can pull it off, it’s this award-winning quartet.

Showtimes are 7 and 10 p.m. Thursday, 7:30 p.m. Friday, and 1:30 and 7:30 p.m. Saturday at the Kravis Center, located at 701 Okeechobee Blvd. in West Palm Beach. Tickets cost $39 to $59. Call 561-832-7469, or visit kravis.org

December 31 may be New Year’s Eve, but it’s also a college rivalry of sorts as well. The Florida State Seminoles will take on the Houston Cougars for the 2015 Chick-fil-A Peach Bowl. The game will take place in the Georgia Dome in Atlanta, but there is no need to travel to get a front-row view of it. Tilted Kilt in Fort Lauderdale will be showing the game, and with more than 100 TVs as well as a large video wall, the place will surely offer you a good spot. After each score, the FSU war chant will be played. Drink specials include $3 Fireball shots, $3 Jäger shots, $15 domestic buckets, and $20 import buckets. Regular beers on tap and bottle include Bud Light, Blue Moon, Samuel Adams, and Stella Artois. There are red and white wines, mixed drinks, a variety of Moscow mules, shots, drink bombs, and beer cocktails (two different beers or liquor and beer mixed together). Menu items include burgers, salads, sandwiches, soups, and multiple types of entrées.

The game starts at noon Thursday. The Tilted Kilt is located at 219 S. Andrews Ave. in Fort Lauderdale.

Friday, January 1

We want you to end 2015 with a splash. No, we’re being serious: On Friday, January 1, why not kick off the first day of 2016 with a dive into the Atlantic Ocean? You can if you attend Beauty & the Feast’s new holiday ritual. The Atlantic Hotel & Spa’s signature restaurant will host its second-annual New Year’s Day Polar Bear Plunge and Brunch, where guests are invited to wash away the last of 2015 when they meet on Fort Lauderdale Beach outside the hotel before taking a dive into the water. While it’s named for similar events in colder climes, there’s no need to worry here: El Niño promises you a balmy bath. Choose any attire you like: a bathing suit, ball gown, tuxedo, or your outfit from New Year’s Eve. After taking the big plunge, the Atlantic Hotel & Spa will provide a private area for guests to dry off and change before enjoying the big-day brunch featuring eggs served with pecan-wood-smoked bacon, sage sausage links, lobster omelets with Boursin cheese, classic eggs Benedict, and bananas foster French toast. There is no cost to participate in the 2016 New Year’s Day Polar Bear Plunge.

Participants taking part in the plunge should meet at 10:30 a.m. at Lifeguard Stand 11 on Fort Lauderdale Beach. Register at society8.com to receive complimentary commemorative 2016 New Year’s Day Polar Bear Plunge favors and refreshments. Walk-ins are welcome. The Beauty & the Feast pre-fixe New Year’s Day brunch menu will be served from 11 a.m. to 2:30 p.m. Friday for $29.50 per person.

It’s more than likely you’ll be recovering from a near-sober experience after a night of ringing in the new year. It’s OK. That’s what New Year’s Day is for. But if you haven’t, it’s basically games galore, from Dungeons and Dragons to Magic: The Gathering. Or maybe a solid game of Monopoly sounds like a good time? Now you can get your Warhammer fix while never missing a college bowl game. Whether you’re a gamer, a jock, or a gamer/jock hybrid, Board Games & Bowl Games is the perfect way to spend the first day of 2016.

If this country had a nickel for every talented artist working as a barista instead of honing his craft, we could pay off the national debt – or at least the student debt for all those liberal-arts degrees. But for George Tandy Jr., a coffee-shop job proved to be a career gateway rather than a distraction. A singer, songwriter, hip-hop dancer, and keyboardist, Tandy was reportedly working at a Florida Starbucks when he served Cima Georgevich, CEO of RedStar Entertainment. He handed Georgevich his demo, and RedStar soon released his R&B single “March,” which went on to peak at number three on the adult R&B charts. This overnight sensation will headline the fourth-annual AnniFLO’etry event this weekend at the Broward Center, preceded by spoken-word artists from around the block and across the globe. AnniFLO’etry offers fans of the spoken-word medium a rare theater showcase, and it’s growing in popularity: The third installment, last January, sold out its Broward Center engagement, so get your tickets now for Saturday’s performance in the venue’s intimate, cabaret-style Abdo New River Room, located at 201 SW Fifth Ave. in Fort Lauderdale.

She is a six-time Tony Award-winning actress who is much more comfortable on the Broadway stage belting out a celestial soprano in Porgy & Bess or A Raisin in the Sun than she is on the set of Law & Order: Special Victims Unit or Private Practice – although she may be more recognizable to us lay-couch potatoes for the latter. And he? He is her romantic counterpart, best-known for Broadway performances in Hair, Les Miserables, and Priscilla Queen of the Desert. So how does one of the stage’s most celebrated partnerships – Audra McDonald and Will Swenson – get away from the pressures of constant curtain calls? By packing up the sheet music and heading way, way off Broadway to the Parker Playhouse (707 NE Eighth St., Fort Lauderdale) for a night of dishing, chatting, and classic show-tune sing-alongs with Sirius XM host and pianist Seth Rudetsky. In Audra McDonald: Broadway Concert Series, concertgoers are invited to an intimate, informal night of performance and conversations with some of Broadway’s biggest enthusiasts.

Showtime is at 8 p.m. Saturday, with tickets costing $50 to $130. Call 954-462-0222, or visit parkerplayhouse.org

Kevro’s Art Bar, risen from the “ruins of South Side blight,” has turned into one of Delray’s funkiest destinations. The brainchild of artists Kevin “Kevro” Rouse and Deb Sullivan, the Art Bar is the anchor of the revitalized SofA (AKA South of Atlantic) district and an unpretentious watering hole for locals. The property – equal parts art compound, studio, project space, gallery, and bar – now boasts a fun addition to its weekly programming: an open-mic/open-jam night. With the focus on the usual open-mic fare of live music, Kevro’s has added quite the luxurious amenities with a full back line, amps, PA, and a keyboard available to musicians and bands to join without the stress of logging their entire gear. With the weather turning for the better, the rather large patio area is a welcome spot to enjoy cheap drinks and the communal vibe of an open mic. All “musicians, singers, songwriters, and full bands are encouraged to come,” with a guaranteed stage time, so you can properly prepare yourself.

Happy hour is from 6 to 8 p.m. and the open mic/open jam starts at 7 p.m. and goes on until closing every Sunday night at Kevro’s Art Bar, 166 SE Second Ave., Delray Beach. You must be 21 or older. Call 561-278-9675, or visit kevroart.com.

Wednesday, January 6

Wednesdays are equal parts awful and wonderful. As far from last weekend as it is close to next weekend, Wednesday is like the Autumnal Equinox of the week. So go out and get a little taste of that sweet weekend freedom and head over to the Hump Day Food Truck Collective in Tamarac Park. For the past two years, this weekly roundup of gourmet eateries on wheels has been bringing together the hungry community of Tamarac for a midweek reminder of what life is really about. Spend a little time with your sweetheart on a weeknight date. Up your foodie game with a tasting tour of every truck. Or just lounge out in the grass and let the kids run off dinner – they’ll go to bed without a fight for once. The rotating roster of food trucks means there’s something for every palate, like Arepas Las Gorditas, Monster Burgers, Potato Corner, PizzaZilla, Bahama Bucks, and Everglades Food Shack. There are occasional theme nights – like the recent Bacon Day – as well as a monthly movie night. Set the DVR, bring a picnic blanket, and enjoy some of that outdoor Florida living the rest of the country is so jealous of.
