Presented by James Brown’s Sweat, the dance party at the Mai-Kai is back: That means funk and soul and punk wafting through a tiki bar, and you feeling punchy after dipping into the Rum Barrel. Back for one night only, Sensitive Side, Mikey Ramirez, and the man himself — James Brown’s Sweat — will spin a fresh selection of vinyl and keep it nostalgic. Even if the place gets too packed (this happened last time): Mai-Kai will open another section of the restaurant in the event of crowd overflow.

See, a packed house is imminent: From 10 p.m. to midnight, the happy hour won’t include just drinks. Although most everything — even beer — is half-price, there will also be giveaways from Radio-Active Records for the most stoked dancers on the floor (so if you missed out on Record Store Day last weekend, you can dance your way to some merchandise — if you’re lucky). And don’t fret: The boys will be back in June, this time heavy on the surf tunes, being the official DJs of Mai-Kai’s tenth-annual Hukilau event. We’ll keep you posted on this — for now, no need to don a lei to party from 9 p.m. to 2 a.m. at the Mai-Kai Restaurant and Polynesian Show (3599 N. Federal Highway, Fort Lauderdale.) Call 954-563-3272, or visit maikai.com.
