Despite starting her jazz career in 2002, Miami-based Nicole Henry is already an experienced singer. Her resume includes performances in Japan, France, and New York, at celebrated venues like the Jazz at Lincoln Center. Henry has the rare ability to transcend musical genres by combining contemporary material and standards, ultimately making them their own.

Her latest recorded effort is The Very Thought Of You, a disc in which she explores tunes written by some of the greatest jazz composers of the 20th century - including the title song (made famous by Nat “King” Cole) and an updated version to Antonio Carlos Jobim's classic “Waters of March.” Henry demonstrates great style on stage whether backed by a simple piano trio or a big band. Her new show, Almost Like Being In Love, is a collection of romantic tunes spanning different eras in the history of jazz.

Catch Henry Wednesday night at 7:45 at the Broward Center for the Performing Arts, found at 201 SW Fifth Ave. in Fort Lauderdale. Tickets cost $ 35 to 40. Call 954-462-0222, or visit browardcenter.org.
