The World According to Ruth

We know: Among your friends, you are the go-to for sex advice, but that doesn't make you a sex therapist. The world's most famous sex therapist is Dr. Ruth Westheimer, and although that simply sounds like the greatest job on the planet, Westheimer went through a lot to get there. You watched her call-in show late at night, sex toy examples and all. You might have learned a little something about getting off, but how much do you know about Dr. Ruth? Debra Jo Rupp, best-known as Kitty Foreman on That 70's Show, has proven to be the perfect choice for portraying Westheimer in the play about her life: Becoming Dr. Ruth. Dr. Ruth's journey goes to deep, unexpected places, starting as a Holocaust survivor and sniping for Haganah in Jerusalem before becoming the sex therapist we know and love today. Her story is tragic and hilarious and portrayed with the pleasant demeanor that only Eric Foreman's mother can provide. Bonus: Talkbacks immediately following the Thursday, Saturday, and Sunday shows feature Rupp and Dr. Ruth herself! Make sure to bring your burning questions. We have a feeling they know the answers. Becoming Dr. Ruth is Wednesday through May 11 at the Parker Playhouse, located at 707 NE Eighth St. in Fort Lauderdale. Showtimes vary. Tickets cost $28 to $66.50. Call 954-462-0222, or visit
