There’s a New Diva in Town

Some of the greatest female jazz vocalists of all time were Ella Fitzgerald (the “Queen of Jazz”) and Sarah Vaughan. Known for their incredible vocal range, spanning three octaves, these ladies knew how to capture an audience. Well, move over, Fitzgerald and Vaughan, because jazz singer and actress Renee Olstead is about to wow her own audience as she performs as part of the Signature Series at the Miramar Cultural Center/ArtsPark in Miramar. This pop-jazz artist, whose voice has been compared to Jane Monheit and Paula Cole, has performed with jazz legends such as Wynton Marsalis, Billy Childs, and John Clayton. She is also known for starring roles in The Secret Life of the American Teenager and Still Standing. She has performed at music festivals in Switzerland, Indonesia, Canada, Germany, and the U.S. Olstead’s first album reached number one on Billboard’s jazz charts, and her new single, “She’s Got Your Name,” is available on iTunes and at all major digital stores. Don’t miss this new queen of jazz performing on Saturday at 8 p.m. at the Miramar Cultural Center/Artspark, located at 2400 Civic Center Place on Red Road, north of Miramar Parkway. Tickets cost $35, $40, and $45. Call 954-602-4500, or visit
