The worlds of adrenaline junkies and literary buffs don’t coincide often, but this Saturday, these two disparate experiences will collide at the book launching of the science-fiction novel Angel on the Ropes. The book’s author, Jill Shultz, is hosting this one-of-a-kind event to unveil her newest work at Trapeze-Experience, an outdoor flying trapeze rig. From 4 to 5 p.m., attendees will have the chance to be flung from this aerial apparatus. The novel itself is also going for a ride — when Shultz says she is launching a novel, take her for her word, OK? Afterward, Shultz will be signing books and joining heralded trapeze artist Peter Gold for a Q&A. It was with Gold’s help that Shultz obtained the necessary info on the high-flying, acrobatic sport — the protagonist in this futuristic novel is a circus trapeze artist in an “offworld colony.” The two will discuss the novel, circus life, and the “impossible trick,” based on one of Gold’s infamous trapeze maneuvers, which Shultz expands upon in her novel. Those interested in being flung should email Shultz before coming out at [email protected] This airborne literary affair is from 4 to 6 p.m. Saturday at Trapeze-Experience, located at 201 N. Flagler Drive in West Palm Beach. There is no cost to attend. Call 607-527-0784, or visit trapeze-experience.com.
