You only have to watch one hour of Headline News to know that a large segment of todays youth are lazy slobs who wont try a sport unless it has the word Wii affixed to it. And we dont blame them; if honey bun-eating were an Olympic sport, wed be breaking records left and right. The kiddies are just following in our chubby footsteps. But each year when October rolls around, local young uns get off of their collective buns and join in the Junior Orange Bowls athletic fun. Over a period of four months, young South Floridians compete in a potpourri of events from golf and gymnastics to bowling and swimming. The chess and creative writing competitions will have your feeble brain hurting, so stick with the physical stuff.
The International Tennis Championship began in 1962 and since its birth, legends such as Andre Agassi, Monica Seles, and Steffi Graf have hit the courts. This year, head over to catch a glimpse of the next decades big names as the best junior male and female players from around the world duke it out. Matches will take place at various locations around Miami and Coral Gables, but for todays boys match head to Tropical Park the games are free and last all day long.
