This Pitbull Comes Unleashed

With a raspy voice and snarky, in-your-face style, Scarsdale, New York’s Bobby Slayton has earned a reputation as the “Pitbull of Comedy” through his illustrious 20-plus-years as a standup comic. While pacing the stage, Slayton delivers mile-a-minute laughs with a ferocity and no-holds-barred nature that’s unlike any other comic today. His distinctive gravelly voice will be familiar to audiences, having been heard on animated shows like Dr. Katz and Family Guy. Slayton’s idiosyncratic mug is no stranger to fame either, because this funnyman has appeared in many a Hollywood hit. With roles in blockbusters such as Get Shorty, Ed Wood, Bandits, and most recently Dreamgirls, Slayton is no unfamiliar face. But perhaps Slayton’s most endearing role was that of Joey Bishop, in the lounge-singer biopic The Rat Pack. Add regular appearances on the Howard Stern Show and the Tonight Show to his repertoire and the fact that he has starred in his own HBO standup special and Slayton’s résumé reads like a veritable who’s who in the comedy world. Witness the Pitbull of Comedy snarl at the audience Friday as he performs two shows, at 8 and 10:30 p.m., at the Fort Lauderdale Improv, located at 5700 Seminole Way in Hollywood. Tickets cost $20, with a two-drink minimum. Visit ftl.improv.com, or call 954-981-5653.
