Tour De Force

A Sunday morning sometimes -- OK, a lot of the time -- requires extra incentive to get out of bed early and do something more meaningful than removing last night's mascara. The Tour de Broward this weekend provides ample motivating factors, with events like a 3K family walk, a 5K timed run, and cycling (50K and 100K courses), plus "The Power of Play Kids Zone" with sports-themed activities for kids 13 and younger. The money generated from the events will go to the programs at Joe DiMaggio Children's Hospital Cardiac Center, one of only two pediatric heart transplant program facilities in South Florida. The Tour de Broward is 7 a.m. to 1 p.m. Sunday in Miramar Regional Park, located at 16801 Miramar Parkway in Miramar. The cost is $10 to $50, plus fundraising requirements of $25 to $110. All participants will receive a goody bag. Registration closes at noon Thursday. Call 954-341-6000, or visit
