Muazzez Ersoy is a diva in Turkey. And she looks a lot like Celine Dion. But Dion sounds like a crooner next to Ersoy, whose warble is mystic in that distinctly Middle-Eastern way. This Sunday she’ll perform at the Florida Turkish Festival.

The festival, now in its second year, takes place at Huizenga Park (32 E. Las Olas Blvd., Fort Lauderdale). There’s no admission fee, but you’re advised to Bring Your Own Lawn Chair. In addition to Ersoy, there’ll be a D.J., a troupe of mesmerizing dancers, face-painting, art and cooking workshops, and an exhibition of Turkish rugs. Of course, there will also be Turkish food to munch on, meaning: baklavas, gyros, and shish kebabs.

The Anatolia Cultural Center in Fort Lauderdale organized the event. Incidentally, the group worked with the Broward County government this year to make June “Turkish-American Friendship Month.” Mark your calendars! Call 954-956-8828 or visit www.floridaturkishfest.org.
