Twee Titters and Twagedy

To the erstwhile Sol Theatre's funky digs -- with its grand old Goodwill couches and tiny auditorium so intimate that theatergoers occasionally find themselves talking back to the actors -- comes Thinking Cap Theatre's world premiere of Death for Sydney Black, by Leah Nanako Winkler. Leah's a young woman with hip hair and a strong résumé full of tweely titled plays (Happy Dance Dance Princess) that suggest a cool sensibility not usually found in SoFla productions. Details on the play are scanty, but the promos suggest this is very much an event for the young and with-it. The subtitles on one video promo, which show snapshots of a raven-haired young actress in hipster drag strumming a ukulele, read: "Meet Jen. Quirky Jen. She is an American girl. And she has a story to tell you. A story that is funny. A story that is dark. A story that is true." Fun for you. Death for Sydney Black! Death runs through November 27 at Empire Stage (1140 N. Flagler Drive, Fort Lauderdale). Tickets cost $15 to $30. Visit thinkingcaptheatre.com.
