Tweet-erific Music

A lot of post-hardcore and post-emo is removed from its origins — but when the two combine, it forms something else entirely (think screamo or crabcore). And thanks to the internet, these derivatives keep on coming. So in an era as saturated as this one, it’s noteworthy when a post-hardcore/emo act such as So Contagious, formerly Seven Story Fall, gains recognition completely from the internet. Quoting from its MySpace page, drummer Wesley Moore says, “We put a lot of focus into promoting ourselves on the web… [it] is definitely working in our favor.” Its site features constant Twitter updates and six recent videos of in-studio recordings; its MySpace-spawned popularity got the band on the Vans Warped Tour bill twice and a show at the 2008 Rockstar Taste of Chaos Tour in Atlanta, its hometown. This would not have worked so smoothly if the band weren’t impressive. Its punk-influenced style is dark, lyrically heartfelt, and at times humorous — listen to its cover of Akon’s “Right Now.” Touring the South this summer, it’s headlining a dense lineup of like-minded acts — Chasing Thrill, Haulover Drive, New City Lions, Any Told Desire, and Waterloo — at the Talent Farm that, with the price of only $12 at the door, makes this an especially exciting — and angsty — set. Show starts at 6:30 p.m. at the Talent Farm (20911 Johnson St. Ste. 110-111, Pembroke Pines). Call 954-348-3488, or visit thetalentfarm.com.
