Vinyl Love

Record collectors, you day has come. Yes, it's that time of year again: Record Store Day, when 700 independently owned U.S. record stores and hundreds of others worldwide join forces and celebrate the unique culture that surrounds the local record store. With this global shebang come coveted record releases, of course, with box sets from Cake and the Dave Matthews Band and even a Notorious B.I.G. reissue. There's something for everyone. For Record Store Day 2014, Fort Lauderdale's record mecca, Radio-Active Records, has a day planned that will whet the appetite of any vinyl lover. With six topnotch local acts on the bill (Sweet Bronco, Shotgun Betty, Bluebird, the Astrea Corporation, Deaf Poets, and Ketch Shuby,) five DJs, outside vendors, free coffee and other beverages, and a live stream courtesy of Jolt Radio, music lovers better conserve their energy. And be on the lookout for Radio-Active's exclusive Record Store Day Public Enemy tribute CD -- featuring covers of the controversial, politically charged rap group from our area's best local acts. This music-aficionado fete is free to attend and begins at 9 a.m. and lasts until 10 p.m. on Saturday at Radio -Active Records, located at 845 N. Federal Highway in Fort Lauderdale. Visit, or call 954-762-9488.
