All diseases are bitches. And the ones that still do not have cures yet? What do you call an uber bitch? But, in a way, banding together for awareness is a cure. The support, advocacy, education -- all that is empowering, motivating, and comforting. It keeps the fight strong. And, to boot, the fundraising does go to the ultimate goal: to end the disease. Sunday, folks affected by polycystic kidney disease (PKD) will Walk for PKD at Topeekeegee Yugnee Park (3300 North Park Road, Hollywood). For the unfamiliar, PKD is an inherited disease -- cysts develop on both kidneys, making them increase in size and weight. This free fundraising event features a noncompetitive two mile walk, which begins at 10 a.m. The Penny Kids Dash starts at 9:30, and you may register at 9. If you can't make the walk, donations are accepted online at pkdcure.org.
