We Need Speed

Whether it’s crystal meth or driving fast, the quest for speed ain’t cheap. Unless, of course, you plan on sucking drug fumes through a pen tube out of a butane-torched, upside-down light bulb. But that’ll keep you up for days, make your teeth fall out, and have you robbing grannies. The cheap fix we do recommend? Watching high-performance go-karts — that rock 125cc engines, sit an inch and a half off the ground, and do 120 miles per hour — race for free Sunday at Homestead Karting’s Rmax Challenge at the Homestead-Miami Speedway (1 Speedway Blvd., Homestead). Between the three-layer fire suits, helmets, and strain to forearms, core, back, neck, and brain, we’re talking serious motorsports. Bring some drinks, buy a burger, and watch the drivers play dirty in the qualifiers. Races run 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. Saturday and Sunday. Call 305-469-6188, or visit homesteadkarting.net.
