Remember that time you made out with the chick that was really a dude? The Brazilian Girls are that sort of gender switcheroo times three. Although singer Sabina Sciubba definitely has ovaries, the rest of the New York-based group are, ironically, not girls. Nor are any of them from Brazil, though keyboardist Didi Gutman is from Argentina -- which is at least on the right continent. The band might not take its image too seriously, but its music is another matter: sexy, downtempo dance-pop and synth-funk driven by jazz-infused beats and sly bedroom lyrics. Check its self-titled debut, released in February, for the pulse-quickening "Don't Stop" and the anthemic "Pussy," an infectious ode that features what might be the greatest, dumbest chorus of all time. Like the album, their live shows are ribbed for your pleasure, incorporating performance art in the form of blindfolds, nude suits, and other toys Sciubba keeps in the nightstand.

The Brazilian Girls play at 8 p.m. Saturday, October 15, at the Culture Room, 3045 N. Federal Hwy., Fort Lauderdale. Tickets cost $15. Call 954-564-1074.
