The Deep End

Fort Lauderdale's club-lined Himmarshee area can be an exciting backdrop for a night of cocktails and cockteases. Staggering around the scantily clad females and bustling specimens of masculinity, one soon finds that there's really one thing on everyone's mind: sex. And what better day than Hump Day to let your hormones run wild?

Sure enough, Wednesdays on Himmarshee Street are all about getting Wet 'N' Hard. Wait, that's not as dirty as it sounds — or maybe it is. Step inside Capones on Himmarshee, where hot, sweaty bodies converge inside the bar's tinted halls, compelled to action by primitive beats, both electronic and acoustic. Wet 'N' Hard is the brainchild of DJ Ed Whitty, who has brought the passionate dancehall vibe of Europe to the hungry crowds of South Florida. Whitty's aim is to create an instinctive mating ritual through music; sultry dance moves and uninhibited pleasure are top bill here. But Whitty's not alone. While he's busy blending techno-fusion, sexy Latin flavors, and African tribal beats, percussionist Orlando provides live accompaniment, adding a ritualistic flair with his bongos and drums. The result is an intoxicating musical cocktail best imbibed slowly — perhaps in tandem with an exotic beverage, which are free for ladies and three-for-one for gents. So drink up, and don't feel bad if you spill a little. You're bound to get wet anyway. Get Wet 'N' Hard from 10 p.m. until 4 a.m. every Wednesday at Capones, 310 Himmarshee St., Fort Lauderdale. Admission is free. Call 954-524-1969.
