The Deep End

Labor Day's always a good time to catch up on some much-needed R&R after a long, work-free (and party-heavy) weekend. And after this Friday's Fluff Ball at Karma Lounge, you'll need at least a day's rest to get back in gear. Under the direction of local promotions gang Full On Productions, the latest installment in Karma's long-running, weekly breaks night is pulling out all the stops to make this the pre-Labor Day party to recover from.

The event is showcased by break-core/house veteran J-Break, who unloads his vast collection of material for your listening and dancing pleasure. Best-known for his collaborations with Agent K and Wutam, the Orlando-grown-turned-international DJ has become a huge success through his electro-breaks label, Cyberian Knights, where deep bass and electro-loops have given way to dozens of handily produced mixes and releases. Strong showings from pioneering Florida breaker Johnny Dangerously and Full On Productions' Mark Ivan — back with a brand-new set — look to be icing on the cake for this delicious night of breaks and jams. Laborers will be pleased to note that, like every Full On Friday at Karma, Fluff Ball is free. So you can save your cash for the important stuff — you know, all that fun stuff to fill your cooler with on Monday.

Fluff Ball '06 takes place from 8 p.m. to 4 a.m. Friday, September 1, at Karma Lounge, 4 W. Las Olas Blvd., Fort Lauderdale. Call 954-687-7131, or visit
