Martin County isn't the sort of place where you'd expect to find a hotbed of post-jazz musical innovation. But don't tell that to the Stuart trio of Alan Martinke, Billy Gilmore, and Jessiah Weston, collectively known as Aquaphonics. Aquaphonics is first and foremost a jam band. It's got a heavy jazz edge with enough bop to keep a crowd on its toes, but it's also got a bit of an experimental streak and isn't afraid to add a little electronic music, bluegrass, and worldbeat to the mix. Imagine the Grateful Dead jamming with Brian Eno on the theme to King of the Hill and you've got the basic idea. Aquaphonics gets the funk out — check it out and you'll never make fun of a hippie again.

Aquaphonics performs Sunday, May 28, at Dada, 52 Swinton Ave., Delray Beach. The free show starts at 10 p.m. Call 561-330-3232.
