DJ Rap's moniker may be a little misleading in its simplicity. Created out of an early fixation with breakbeats and hip-hop, it served better as a bypass key into the cock-and-balls attitude of the club world. You see, DJ Rap (AKA Charissa Saverio) was born in Singapore and spent an enviable childhood in picturesque locales with exotic vistas. She's a trained piano player who narrowly escaped an existence as a lawyer when she discovered the rave/party scene during a stint in the United Kingdom. But Rap's worn many hats along the way — model, label owner, producer, and singer, to name a few. Jumping from sweaty club kid to turntablist, Rap's floor experience allows her to work off a drum 'n' bass platform while seamlessly incorporating aspects of rock, trance, ambience, and house into the mix. She is the "First Lady of Jungle" for a reason; and that reason is not based solely on her smoking good looks.

DJ Rap performs at 11 p.m. Saturday, August 12, at Revolution, 200 W. Broward Blvd., Fort Lauderdale. Tickets cost $10. Call 954-727-0950, or visit www.jointherevolution.net.
