With heavy hearts, we report that indie fixture the Brand is trading sunny South Florida for the gray skies of London. Over the past three years, few bands have been as instrumental in helping foster Miami's fledgling indie community. Musically, the band made an instant impact after its 2002 formation, featuring a power-pop/punk sound filled out with electro-clash/electronica flourishes. But the Brand's impact goes beyond its music — the fellas were the consummate scenesters. Their "Dogs for the Underdogs" campaign offered free meals to touring bands, and over the years, they've played many a weekly at many a local haunt. Given their run of bad luck, it's no surprise that, like so many other talented groups, the band has given up on South Florida. While we wish them the best, we also request that they not go the route of Saigon Kick and eventually return with Cockney accents.

The Brand performs at 5 p.m. Saturday, January 14, with Humbert, Modernage, Sixo, Jorges, Baby Calendar, and others at Churchill's Hideaway Pub, 5501 NE Second Ave., Miami. There's no cover. Call 305-757-1807.
