There’s nothing like a quality theatrical performance to make one forget about one’s troubles, right? Not true for Richard Hannay, the lead character in The 39 Steps, a production based on the 1935 film of the same name directed by Alfred Hitchcock. While enjoying a night out at the theater, Hannay meets a mysterious woman who claims to be a spy. Soon, she lures him into the bedroom — then headfirst into a whole heap of crap. Like, when she stumbles into his apartment one night and keels over dead, the police chase the poor guy all over the United Kingdom. Does Hannay ever find the killer? Does he ever find the meaning of the “39 steps”? And, most important, will he ever get frisky with a woman again? There’s only one way to find out. See the show Thursday at either 2 or 8 p.m. at Parker Playhouse, 707 NE Eighth St. in Fort Lauderdale. Tickets cost $15 to $50. It runs until February 28.
