When you think of Germany, perhaps springing to mind are the Autobahn, Oktoberfest, and lederhosen. Beautiful dancing girls and titillating sexual intrigue probably do not. But thats just because you havent seen Cabaret at the Crest Theatre in Old School Square (51 N. Swinton Ave., Delray Beach). More than a musical, Cabaret is a socio-political commentary on German culture and the rise of Nazism, personalized in the tragically doomed love story of a beautiful showgirl and an American writer. Warning: This is no My Fair Lady, but then, youre never going to see the Fair Lady straddling a straight-back chair in thigh-highs and a corset. Find out if the Germans can add cabaret to their list of accomplishments, right next to the speed-limitless highway and a 16-day beer drinking festival. Showtimes are 8 p.m. Friday, 2 p.m. and 8 p.m. Saturday, and 2 p.m. Sunday. Tickets cost $42. Call the box office, 561-243-7922 or visit oldschool.org.
Fri., Feb. 19, 8 p.m.; Sat., Feb. 20, 2 & 8 p.m.; Sun., Feb. 21, 2 p.m., 2010
