The folks who grew up on the west side of Broward County knew there was only one destination to visit if they were trying to locate a rare toy to complete the Mos Eisley Cantina scene for their bookshelf. Tate’s Comics was and still is the mecca of South Florida geekdom. Originally no bigger than a long hallway, the store has not only grown in size over the years but has become a destination for fanboys and fangirls across the globe.

Among the most popular traditions is Tate’s Annual Tent Sale, now celebrating the 17th year since the store opened. All weekend, comics fans will be able get five books for $1 or even fill a long box for only $35. Not to mention 50 percent off all graphic novels, three-for-$25 T-shirts, and much more. To make the event even more special, Tate and his wife, Amanda, are expecting a baby and will be adding baby props to their popular photo booth for you to pose with and take home as a souvenir.

Tate’s Comics is located at 4566 N. University Drive in Lauderhill. The event runs from 10 a.m. to 8 p.m. Saturday and till 5 p.m. Sunday. Call 954-748-0181, or visit tatescomics.com.
