D-Fence! D-Cups!

Through the annals of American football, with the rise and fall of offensive trends, the movement of teams among cities, and the escalation of television’s power, one trend has held fairly steady: Equipment has been improved to protect players’ bodies and brains. The Lingerie Football League has bucked that tradition by outfitting its gutsy gladiatresses in clothing usually reserved for Halloween costumes (sexy football player?) or, um, strippers. Actually they do have cleats, kneepads, and hockey-like helmets, and in further contrast to the steroid- and saline-averse NFL, many dash into battle with what appear to be artificially enhanced pectorals. Miami’s own Caliente (Spanish for “hot”) has won two of its first three games this season and next takes on the Tampa Breeze (English for “wind”) in the fine sport of 7-on-7 tackle football. Presumably the draw is to witness the next step in the evolution of the greatest American sport and/or 14 women in tiny outfits knocking the bejesus out of one another. Both begin Friday at 9 p.m. Friday at the BankAtlantic Center (1 Panther Pkwy., Sunrise). Tickets start at $12. Call 954-523-3309, or log on to ticketmaster.com.
