The Bubble is one of our best independent art/music venues in Fort Lauderdale. It is also an eclectic’s wet dream. So when we heard that an artist’s first solo show was in the works, our ears perked up. Attend a solo show at the Bubble? — don’t mind if we do! Especially since it’s one very cool local artist. Tonight, for one night only, witness the jubilance and the psychedelia, the pains and joys of humanity. Do it from a few feet away as you contemplate the artwork of Gurty.

Gurty, born in Miami, moved to Fort Lauderdale to apprentice at a tattoo shop. After three years of inking permanent fixtures on arms, legs, and who knows what other body parts, he stopped inking the skin and is now primarily working on paintings. Gurty’s brightly colored paintings — from acrylic, oil sticks, and some gouache to pastels — deals with views of himself and others. Each one showcases a human figure — clearly with a lot on the mind. You can mull over what each one represents while MillionYoung performs. Gurty will also have some installation pieces on display at the Bubble (810 NE Fourth Ave., Fort Lauderdale). It’s $5 for 18 and up, $10 for the 21-and-over crowd — this price includes complimentary drinks. Show starts at 6. Call 954-562-3804, or visit independentworkingartistnetwork.com.
