It sounds like a Kit Kat commercial: A group of construction workers, bored at work, one by one begin to dance before breaking out in a flurry of footwork. But suppose these “workers” are Australian, and their form of dance is tap. In that case, there’s obviously no chocolate snacks being pushed here — it’s just a performance of Tap Dogs, the world-renowned tap show created by Aussie dancer Dein Perry. As a native of Newcastle, Perry drew inspiration for Tap Dogs from his industrial surroundings, which serve as the basis of the stage set, from scaffolding and power tools right down to tap shoes fashioned out of Australian work boots. Ministry meets Fred Astaire? Not exactly, but a damn good show nonetheless.
