If you're waiting until Friday night to head downtown Fort Lauderdale, you're just living for the weekend. Don’t be that person — live for Thursday, too. And don't be a person who just knows the downtown experience as rock cover bands, copious liquor shots, and girls dancing on bars. Broaden your horizons! This means entering a coffee shop, instead of the slew of bars. At Brew Urban Cafe (209 SW Second Ave., Fort Lauderdale) tonight at 7:30, you'll find a local monthly art/music soiree called Dialect, where you’ll be able to mingle with fine art and mixed media artists whose art hangs on the walls and listen to DJ collective Twilight Notes. This free event will feature artwork from Keegan Hitchcock, Anna Girgis, Ilian Velasco, and Matylda Mcilvenny, among others, and Raymond Brown will paint an electric guitar. Plus, you’ll have the necessary ingredients, beer and caffeine. Have you ever been to Disney World on a weekday? Take our word for it, there's not as many pesky tourists. Ditto for downtown Fort Lauderdale. We're not telling you to skip Friday, just check out Thursday night as well. Call 954-523-7191, or visit brewurbancafe.com.
