Coffee shops get a bad rap these days. It seems most people associate them with bad beat poetry and intellectual snobs endlessly talking about Ingmar Bergman films while looking down with contempt at pop culture. The Undergrounds Coffeehaus (2743 East Oakland Park Blvd, Fort Lauderdale) proves that shrines to caffeine consumption can be so much more than places for elitist buffoons to endlessly debate banal minutia. Case in point: on Friday, Undergrounds Coffeehaus is rightfully paying tribute to the greatest B movie star of all time, Bruce Campbell, by showing three of his most beloved films. First up we have The Evil Dead, an all-time classic written by Sam Raimi (lately of Spider-Man fame), where Campbell’s character Ash is tasked with eliminating flesh-possessing demons through any means necessary. Then comes Evil Dead 3, also known as Army of Darkness, where Ash accidentally travels to 1300 A.D. and is again forced to battle demons and the undead to save humanity. Finally, Bruce takes on the role of an old, fat Elvis Presley who teams up with the Black JFK to destroy a mummy haunting their retirement home in Bubba Ho-tep.
