Go to Hell

The word Hell conjures images of insufferable pain and misery — unless, of course, it’s referring to the setting of Makeover, a new stage production by North Palm Beach playwright Mark Poncy.

Touted as a contemporary fairy tale, Makeover is a darkly comedic musical that’s peppered with elements of camp and a touch of ’50s sensibility. Set in “friendly Hell,” the play stars an endearing Devil who recently discovered himself in a bit of hot water. It seems this loveable Beelzebub has misplaced a soul — now the Infernal Revenue Service is demanding repayment. Ah, but human vanity may come to his rescue! An average-looking housewife on this side of Hades wants desperately to be beautiful, but is she desperate enough to sell her soul? Find out this Friday, and every Wednesday, Friday and Saturday through November 18, at the Cuillo Centre for the Arts (201 Clematis St., West Palm Beach). Curtain is at 8 p.m., and tickets cost $40 to $45. Call the box office at 561-835-9226, or visit cuillocentre.com.
