Why attend the AT&T USA Diving Grand Prix this Thursday through Sunday at the International Swimming Hall of Fame (1 Hall of Fame Dr., Fort Lauderdale)? Four words: clowns on diving boards. Yes, aside from witnessing the paragons of the diving world compete in the largest pre-Olympic event, you can watch people dressed up in frilly outfits and squeaky noses catapult themselves into swimming pools at deadly heights, solely for your amusement. All you’ll need is some comely lasses to feed you grapes and fan you, and your conversion to royalty will be complete. It’s all part of the “Dreaming of Beijing” Asian Cultural Festival taking place during the Grand Prix. The soirée kicks off 5:30 p.m. Friday with an International Business Reception featuring free cocktails and hors d'oeuvres, followed by the Opening Ceremonies. The festival proper begins Saturday at 9 a.m. — aside from the clown diving, there will be cooking demos from Wok Star Eleanor Hoh (bitchin’), dragon dancing, Aikido martial arts demonstrations, and Asian folk singing and dancing for all. Daily passes cost $10, or you can get a pass for all the events for $75 ($100 for non-members, which includes the membership fee). Call 954-462-6536, or visit www.ishof.org.
