It’s Not Easy, Bein’ Green

The price of gasoline is higher than you would like. Aside from the whole wallet-pinching aspect, you know that you’re also fueling poisonous emissions and political conflicts. Well, alternatives have been around for longer than we think: the diesel engine was originally designed to run on peanut oil and electric cars were plentiful just a decade ago. So why aren’t those options as visible today? Well, the reasons go much deeper than just economic feasibility.

A bunch of local do-greeners are exploring what went wrong on Tuesday at Miramar City Hall (2300 Civic Center Place, Miramar) with a free screening of Who Killed the Electric Car? The film demystifies the near-extinction of the once-popular electric alternative by exposing the politics that squashed its growth. You can also check out an actual electric car – there’s an onsite demonstration compliments of Foreign Affairs Auto of Palm Beach. And you can pick the brains of local ecologically savvy organizations while munching on guilt-free pizza by Pizza Fusion of Miramar (You know Pizza Fusion: You’ve seen them zipping around town in hybrids, delivering their yummy organic pies). Best of all, the whole thing is free. Give an RSVP shout out by calling 954-732-5901, or emailing [email protected] by March 10th to secure your slice of pizza. The program runs from 6 to 8 p.m.
