Run, Throw, and Catch with the Big Dogs

The Super Bowl is coming. Seeing pro athletes in action makes you want to toss the ol’ pigskin around too, but sadly your buddies are too busy perfecting their legendary party dips to join you. Fortunately you’ve always had one friend who was never too tied up in his own schedule to take your calls. He’s always there for you when it’s time to throw the ball around. He’s so loyal that he doesn’t even make fun of your pathetic spiral passes. Your dog is more than your BFF: he’s your teammate.

Dress up in matching sports garb with your pooch and take him to Dog Bowl II (sponsored by the rescue group Boxer Friends Inc.) on Sunday at TY Park (3300 N. Park Rd., Hollywood). Owners and pups alike participate in games, win prizes, and of course, throw the ball around during this fun afternoon event. There will also be dog-specific demos, chipping, Canine Good Citizen testing, raffles, and even a doggie massage therapist on hand to work out any post-football kinks from Fido’s lower lumbar region. A $10 donation gets you a day of play (10 a.m. to 2 p.m.), a goody bag, a raffle ticket (you could win a bike), and a T-shirt. And if all that isn’t enough to entice you, remember that dogs look adorable in sweatbands.
