Dog Days of the New Year

So what your saying is, you want to do a little something to celebrate 2006, the Year of the Dog, properly? Nothing big… maybe try your paw at crafting some dog-inspired New Year’s cards, have your fortune read, learn how to make animal-themed pop-up cards, snack on sticky rice cakes, peruse a bunch of adorably adoptable dogs, and if possible, watch a lion dancer? And you only have five bucks? Dude, go to the Morikami Museum and Japanese Gardens (400 Morikami Park Rd., Delray Beach), where the Oshogatsu Festival is in full effect. Although the Chinese don't mark the beginning of the canine new year until January 29, the Japanese get a jump on the zodiacal calendar. They know how to do it up right, and you get to spend the entire day surrounded by beauty and tradition that took generations upon generations to cultivate. Good thing it’s not the Year of the Rat.
