There is a certain breed of person out there, somewhere, with a profound yen for period furniture, bizarre hats, costumes, used roller skates, scripts, and 300 upholstered theater seats. Or so think the brave men and women of
Caldwell Theatre. They are now vacating their third home, where theyve diligently bent the minds of Boca Ratonians for years and years, pulling together theater seasons of variety and ambition unprecedented in South Florida. Caldwells last season brought us everything from schlocky retrospectives (
Hunka Hunka Burnin Love) to the gleefully avant-garde (
The Clean House), and by casting such a wide net, the folks in charge have made a lot of friends. So many in fact, that the company is now building its own, new, state-of-the-art theater not far from its old location (7873 N. Federal Highway, Boca).
But moving is a bitch, and in digging through their old space, theyve discovered a lot of shit that they just dont need. So theyre selling it. Everything from props to seats to costumes to documents to who-knows-what must go, and some weird shoppers life will be profoundly improved by this situation. There is simply no telling whats going to crop up in this sale. Will some lucky bargain hunter snare the Maria Callas wig from Masterclass? A hair-dryer from Steel Magnolias? If you wanna know, you gotta go. The sale takes place on both the Saturday and Sunday, from 10 a.m. 5 p.m. Call 561-241-7432.
