Was there anyone on TV in the 90s who felt more comfortable as himself than Jon Lovitz? From Friends to Seinfeld, he seemed always to play some grease-spot of a human being; on The Critic, the underappreciated animated vehicle for his overenthusiastic voice talents, he gave heart and wit to a dumpy, balding movie critic who
may just have looked a little like Jon Lovitz. But he does bleed if TMZ.com pricks him. He bristled when the online gossip rag got word that two topless women approached him on Miami Beach and then reported that celebrities can get chicks whether they be old, fat, pale, or all of the above. As long as he doesnt take himself too seriously, though, he seems to be able to will his old, fat way into just about whatever he wants. As Conan OBrien once memorably demanded, after Lovitz told a joke about OBriens alleged vagina, You know what? How do you get away with this crap? See the Lovitz touch at the Palm Beach Improv (550 S. Rosemary Ave., Ste. 250, in West Palm Beach) at City Place on Friday at 8 and 10:30 p.m., Saturday at 7 and 9:45 p.m., or Sunday at 7 p.m. Tickets run $25. You gotta be 21.
